Flying man The longest domain name in the world

Have you ever imagined how long a domain name can be? So I can clearly say that I haven't. But today, I've stumbled across it quite accidentally and I was really shocked how long it is! Just check it out - thelongestdomainnameintheworldandthensomeandthenso memoreandmore.com. There are 78 characters in the domain, and 63 without the domain suffix!! What do you think? Quite longy in my opinion. If you'll find longest name, write here, it's interesting to see what bigger than this people can create.

That domain name is obviously contrived to be the longest. I suspect that the longest possible would be with 126 characters but it would have to include the prefix and suffix so the actual domain name would be shorter by at least 17 characters.

The longest that I know of is:
llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch being 58 characters long and the genuine name of a village in Wales, UK with its own web site promoting Wales and the village. It means – “St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave”.

http://www.llanfairpwllgwyngyllgoge...gogogoch.co.uk/

See - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llanfairpwllgwyngyll

I notice that the system puts a space in between silio and gogogoch. Strange!

Wow this is the longest i've ever seen myself. How did you happen upon this name? Well curious myself i went and visited http://www.thelongestdomainnameinth...moreandmore.com
and it looks like he registered it for no other reason than to have the longest domain name. And tried proposing his name to Guinness .... and as it says on his page this is the response to him by Guinness records.

Dear Sir
Thank you for sending us the details of your recent record proposal for
'Registering the worlds longest computer domain name'

After having examined the information you sent, and given full
consideration to your proposal, I am afraid we are unable to accept your
proposal as a record.

This record is currently rested, which means that no one can attempt this
record and become a new record holder. It has been rested because there is
no merit whatsoever in this. It takes little to no effort and is similar
to taking the largest number in the world and then adding 1 to it.

I appreciate you have gone to a lot of effort, and we are delighted to
hear from people around the world with their record claims and
suggestions. However, given the sheer scope of the records on our
database, and the growing number of people contacting us with record
claims and suggestions, we need to exercise some editorial control over
what is and is not accepted as a record.

I appreciate this may be disappointing for you, but I hope this does not
deter you from trying again. We are always keen to hear from people who
wish to break Guinness World Records. If you should need any advice
regarding breaking an existing record, please contact us again quoting the
above reference number. Alternatively, you can contact us through our
website at:

http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com

Once again, thank you for writing. We wish you every success with any
future record-breaking endeavours.

Yours sincerely,

Scott Christie

You right This one - http://www.thepersonwithanewideaisa...-marktwain.com/. And actually I was wrong, because I read on the site that it is 67 characters long and thought that they mean only the name, but then I count it and realize that these 67 characters include .com

I think there is only one need of these long names - to make a record...
